Michael Lewis Bishop

Michael Lewis Bishop, age 71, of Corbin, Kentucky, passed away on Wednesday June 24, 2026, at Baptist Health in Corbin.

Born on January 26, 1955, in Corbin, Kentucky, Michael was a true embodiment of Kentucky spirit and a beacon of light for everyone who knew him. Preceding him in death were his parents, Paul Bishop and Mary Scalf Bishop, and by his sister, Violet Jones.

Michael was a valued employee at Lowe's Home Improvement in Corbin. His love for his job was only rivaled by his passion for hunting, a pastime that allowed him to connect with the rugged beauty of Kentucky's landscapes. Music was a constant companion in Michael's life, and he found great joy in playing the guitar.

Michael is survived by his loving wife of over 53 years, Brenda Bishop; children, Tonya Williams (Todd), Sherry Walters, and Tyler Bishop; grandchildren, Nicholas Hudson, Christopher Hudson, and Brodie Sampson; nephew, Billy Jones; and by a niece, Christie Guinn.

Visitation for Michael will be held from 12 pm until 2 pm on Sunday, June 28, 2026, at the Vankirk-Grisell Funeral Home, where his funeral service will begin at 2 pm.

Burial will follow in the Pine Hill Cemetery in Corbin.
