Joshua William Cawood, age 37, of Corbin, KY, passed away on Thursday, June 11, 2026.
Born in Corbin, KY, Joshua was a man who loved laughter, making memories, and spending time with the people he loved most. He enjoyed everything the outdoors had to offer, whether he was mowing and landscaping, riding four-wheelers, or taking the golf cart out for a drive. He never turned down good company or a good meal and had a way of making every gathering a little brighter with his sense of humor and easygoing spirit.
Above all, Joshua was devoted to his family. Nothing brought him greater joy than spending time with those he loved, creating memories that will be treasured for years to come. He also shared a special bond with his faithful dog, Ranger, who was always by his side through life's adventures.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Kenneth and Yvonne McCarty and Colleen Sams; and his great-grandparents, Elder Carl McCarty and Mildred Sizemore.
Joshua is survived by his loving wife, Samantha Cawood; children, Justin Cawood (Ashley), Kayleigh Cawood (Alex), Jordan Isabella Cawood, Jaylyn Cawood, Jasmine Cawood Smith (Steven), and Jordan Douglas Cawood; granddaughter, Raelynn Ann Michelle Smith; mother, Kay McCarty Sams (Doug); father, Achillus Cawood, Jr.; brothers, Justin Carl, Matt Sams, Jay Sams, and Jessie Sams; sister, Jessica; special nephew, Dawson; aunts and uncles, Kendra and Shannon Gray and Don Giles and Tim McCarty; mother-in-law, Judy Steenbergen; his little buddy, KJ; close friends, Michael Bryant, Andy Watkins, and Brian and Stephanie Thorpe; little sister, Piper Thorpe; A good friend, Tucker Smith; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will forever cherish his memory.
Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 14, 2026, at Vankirk-Grisell Funeral Home, and from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. on Monday, June 15, 2026. His funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Mike McQueen and Pastor Nick Gunn officiating. Following the service, Joshua will be laid to rest on the farm at his family homeplace.
Pallbearers will be Shannon Gray, Jessie Sams, Matt Sams, Jay Sams, Bro. Danny Smith, and Brian Thorpe. Honorary pallbearer will be Rusty Hedrick.

In lieu of flowers, the family is accepting donations to assist with the unexpected expenses that accompany Joshua's passing and to help support his family during this difficult time. Any contributions received beyond the family's immediate expenses will be designated to benefit Joshua's children.
