Jerry Stewart, age 80, of Corbin, KY, passed away on Thursday, September 17, 2026 at his home.
Born in Barbourville, KY, on January 27, 1946, he was the son of the late Theodore "Ted" Roosevelt Stewart and Ida Mae Sutton Stewart. Jerry worked for many years at American Greetings before retiring.
Jerry was well-known for his sense of humor that could brighten even the gloomiest of days and his remarkable ability to tell captivating stories that kept listeners on the edge of their seats. Jerry was an individual of many talents and passions. He was an avid fisherman and a dedicated member of the Central Baptist Bass Club. His love for fishing was only rivalled by his dedication to faith in Jesus, which was evident in his role as a former Deacon and Sunday School Teacher at First Baptist Church of Corbin. Jerry's strong will was also displayed by his strong opinions and in his passion for woodworking and hunting. These hobbies required time, determination and precision. His life was a testament to the things that mattered most to him: faith, family, and fishing.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son Kelly Lee Steward and his sister, Shirley Elliott.
He is survived by his devoted and loving wife, Anita Sams Stewart; his daughter, Cindy Jackson and husband Anthony; 4 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren and a host of family and friends.
Visitation and funeral service for Jerry Stewart will be held on Monday, September 21st at Vankirk-Grisell Funeral Home, 607 Master Street, Corbin, Kentucky. Visitation will be from 6-7 pm. The funeral service will follow at 7pm with Rev. Alex Lockridge officiating.
In accordance with Jerry’s wishes, cremation will take place following the service, and he will be laid to rest by his family at a later date.
