Gary Edward Compton

Gary Edward Compton born December 08, 1952, in Prestonsburg, KY lost his two-year battle with pancreatic cancer on August 3, 2024, at his home in Corbin, Kentucky, surrounded by family and friends.

He was a man of God and a true believer. Gary was a retired coal miner, he had a passion for gardening, fishing, and hunting.

He was preceded in death by his parents Earl Compton and Freda Adkins Compton, and one special uncle David Adkins.

Gary is survived by his wife of 54 wonderful years Diana Prater Compton, two amazing sons, Wes (Ann) Compton, and Jason (Christine) Compton; one special grandson William Gary Compton (who was the love of his life). In addition, he had several special friends that he called his brothers (you know who you are). Gary is also survived by 9 sisters-in-law and 6 brothers-in-law 27 nieces and nephews, 45 great-nieces and nephews, 47 great-great nieces and nephews, and 2 great-great-great nieces and nephews who called him “Our special uncle”.

Gary was a bodyguard, carpenter, electrician, plumber, and even a landscaper. But most of all he was a provider for his family, and a friend to all he met and would give you the shirt off of his back. He will be missed by many. “The Man The Myth The Legend”

Visitation will be held from 2-4 pm on Thursday, August 8, 2024, at Vankirk-Grisell Funeral Home, where his funeral service will follow at 4 pm with Rev. Bobby Joe Eaton officiating.

Graveside service will be held at 11:30 am on Friday, August 9, 2024, at Mayo Cemetery in Prestonsburg, KY.
