Edna "Mae" Bales, age 81, was born on January 2, 1944, in Lily, KY, a daughter of the late Otis and Bessie McHargue Peters, and passed away on Sunday, December 14, 2025, at St Joseph Hospital in Lexington, Kentucky.
She lived her life as a beacon of strength, love, and service to her community. Edna was a woman of faith, a member of Lily Holiness Church. Mae spent her professional life as a purchasing agent with CertainTeed in Corbin, KY. She also served as a volunteer and officer with Baptist Health Corbin, Hospital Volunteers, where her work was a testament to her selfless dedication to the welfare of her community.
In addition to her parents, Mae was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Bales; and by her siblings, Wanda Jean Brock, W.A. Peters, Rudolph "Dolphie" Peters, Lloyd "Cotton" Peters, and Diane Peters.
She is survived by her children, Debbie Hardin, Lisa Gomez (Jeff), and Roger Bales; grandchildren, Justin Gomez (Missy), Joey Durham (Tiarra), Danielle Hardin, and Jacob Durham; great-grandchildren, Henley Gomez, Eli Rodriguez, and Gracie Durham; two sisters, Faith DelaPena and Sue Viars; sister in law, Wanda Peters; and by several nieces, nephews, other family, and friends, including her bonus family Star and Walter Kusiak.
Visitation for Mae Bales will be held from 12-2 pm on Saturday, December 20, 2025, at the Vankirk-Grisell Funeral Home, where her funeral service will be held at 2 pm on Saturday, the 20th, with Pastor Rob Hale officiating.
Burial will follow in Cumberland Memorial Gardens in Lily, Kentucky.
