Gerald K. Majors, DVM, age 72, of Corbin, KY died September 24, 2025 at Baptist Health Corbin following a brief illness. Gerald was born in Corbin, KY to the late Buelah Mae Patterson Majors and James Russell Majors.
As a young man, Gerald became an avid hunter of upland game birds and whitetail deer, a passion he pursued through the remainder of his life, traveling across the United States and several times to South America in pursuit of the hunt. He was a long-time member of the Tri-County Quail Club, Quail Unlimited, and the National Wild Turkey Federation. Gerald also became involved with American Saddlebred Horses as a teen and was an accomplished horseman, winning numerous championship titles across Kentucky and Tennessee.
It was his love of sporting dogs and American Saddlebred horses that influenced his educational pursuits. Gerald graduated from Corbin High School in 1971, after which he attended both Cumberland College and Union College for pre-veterinary undergraduate studies. He graduated from Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine in 1978, earning his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM). Gerald then returned to Corbin, Kentucky, where he practiced veterinary medicine for the next 42 years. He was the owner of Corbin Animal Clinic from 1980 to 2008 and later transitioned to a part-time role at London Veterinary Clinic. He retired from active practice in 2020.
Gerald was preceded in death by his parents, Buelah Mae Patterson Majors and James Russell Majors, as well as his brother, James Phillip Majors. He is survived by his former wife, Glenda K. Majors and their children, daughter, Kristin Majors Moore, MD (Wesley), and son, Matthew Majors (Kacie-Lin). Additional survivors include grandson, Clark Joseph Majors, granddaughter, Cara Jaymes Majors; nieces Jamie Majors Spencer and Megan Majors Jackson (Terrence); nephews Jason Mahan (Tiffany) and Anthony Mahan (Jennifer, DVM); great nephews Jaden Spencer, Myles Masten, Ethan Mahan, and Eli Mahan.
Per his wishes, Gerald was laid to rest in a private service with interment at Worley Cemetery, Corbin, KY. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation in Gerald’s honor to the charity of your choice. Vankirk-Grisell Funeral Home is assisting the family.
