Chester Noah White, age 96, of Gray, passed away quietly on Tuesday, March 5, 2013.
He was born in Gray, Kentucky and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Corbin. Chester served in the Army Air-Corp during World War II. After returning from the war he married Jewell Jones. They moved to Chicago, ILL where Chester taught military school for a few years. He and Jewell then moved to Hazel Park, MI, where they bought a home on Pearl Street. While in Michigan Chester was a teacher at United Oaks School and Henry Ford School both in Hazel Park. After his retirement after 40years of teaching, they moved back to Gray, KY where he raised chickens and cows.
Chester was preceded in death by the love of his life, Jewell Virginia Jones White; Parents, Noah Franklin White and Melvina Jane Humfleet White; Brothers, Gerald, Reginald, Luther, and Edgar White; and by a Sister, Cecil McNeil.
He is survived by his Children; Larry Vance White, Hilda Jeanine Askins, Agnes Virginia White, Carol Gay Brejnak, Kenneth Chester White, Noah Charles White, and John Marvin White; 16 Grandchildren, 10 Great Grandchildren, and three Great Great Grandchildren; as well as, numerous nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Chester lived a long and happy life and he will be missed dearly, but we know that he is with his wife Jewell rejoicing with the Angels.
Funeral service for Chester White will be at 2pm on Saturday, March 9, 2013, at the Vankirk-Grisell Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Cox Cemetery at Gray with military honors by the American Legion Post #88 of Corbin.
Visitation will be held from 6-9pm on Friday at the Vankirk-Grisell Funeral Home.
