Charles "Kais" Herbert Rains, age 69, of Woodbine, Kentucky, passed away on Wednesday, May 6, 2026.

Born in Corbin, Kentucky, he was the son of the late Melvin and Frankie Kidd Rains.

Charles had a great love for life, which he poured into his many passions. A lifelong resident of Woodbine, Kentucky, he was fondly referred to as the "Mayor" of Woodbine, a testament to his good nature and willingness to help anyone he met. Known for his love for motorcycles, hotrods, and car shows, Charles was always ready to share a laugh or lend a helping hand. His work as a laborer in the heavy equipment industry, especially his time at Whayne Supply, showcased his dedication, resilience, and hard work. In retirement, Charles remained active and engaged, his laughter and spirited anecdotes a constant source of joy and comfort to those around him. Above all, he loved his family and friends and deeply treasured the time spent with them.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his step-son, Christopher Rogers; sister, Patricia Proffitt; brothers-in-law, Edgar Inman & Ernest Proffitt; a niece, Sarah Nicole Rains and a nephew, Adam Bray.

He is survived by his loving wife, Gracie Christena Rains, and their son, Jeremy Rains(Donna); step-children, Melanie Hanrahan(Rob), Kenny Rogers(Angie) and Carl Rogers; siblings, Linda Inman, Carl "Bino" Rains(Sherry) and Billy Rains(Karin); along with a host of grandkids, great-grandkids, nieces and nephews. He is also survived by special friends, Kenny Lanham and Frankie Dempsey.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, May 10, 2026, from 6:00p.m. to 9:00p.m. at the Vankirk-Grisell Funeral Home in Corbin, Kentucky. Funeral service will follow on Sunday, May 10 at 4:00p.m. with Mr. Ryan Rains and Rev. Hershel Walker will officiate.

Burial will follow in the family cemetery at 982 S. Hwy. 1064, Woodbine, Kentucky.

Pallbearers will be Eric Bingham, Clint Bozier, Zack Carroll, Frankie Dempsey, Michael Hanrahan, Michael Inman, Noah Justice, Johnny Monhollen and Dustin Rains.
