Bertha Whitaker

Bertha Whitaker, age 97, of Corbin, passed away on Monday, Oct. 14, 2013, at Baptist Health Corbin.
Born in Jellico, Tennessee, she was the daughter of the late John Tom Thomas and Lottie Jones Thomas. She had been the cosmetology supervisor for Mt. Pleasant Funeral Home in Harlan.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph F. Whitaker on Aug. 5, 1979, to whom she was wed on Dec. 25, 1929; her daughter, Lorene Short; and by her son, Jean Whitaker.
She is survived by her daughter, Glenna Dungey and husband Alan of Corbin; son, Bill Whitaker; 27 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 12:00 Noon Tuesday, October 15th, until the Funeral at 1:00 pm at Vankirk-Grisell Funeral Home with Bobby Joe Monday officiating.
Burial will be in the Cumberland Memorial Gardens.
