Arnold "Hoss" Herman Hamlin

November 26, 1931 — May 13, 2026

Corbin, KY

Arnold Herman “Hoss” Hamlin, age 94, of Corbin, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, on Wednesday, May 13, 2026.

Hoss was born on November 26, 1931, in Faber, Kentucky, to the late Delmore “Dell” Hamlin and Margaret Mullis Hamlin. He lived a life defined by hard work, generosity, faith, and gratitude. If you had the opportunity to spend time with Hoss, he would quickly tell you just how blessed he was.

A proud veteran, Hoss served his country honorably in the United States Air Force from 1950 until 1954. Following his military service, he worked for 27 years at American Greetings while continuing the work he truly loved—farming. Farming was never just a job to Hoss; it was a way of life that reflected his tireless work ethic. To him, a “half day’s work” meant twelve hours, and he never hesitated to lend a helping hand to anyone in need.

Hoss was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who loved his family deeply. He was known for his generous spirit and welcoming heart. There was always room at his table for anyone who needed a meal, encouragement, or friendship. He loved the Bible, his church family, and cheering on the Kentucky Wildcats.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Lavonne Hamlin; son, Stuart (Kim) Hamlin; daughter, Signe (Tom) Clayton; son, Keith (Kathy) Renfro; and daughter, Kelli (Brad) Myers. He also leaves behind his cherished grandchildren, Addison Hamlin, Joseph Hamlin, Katie (Kyle) Greenwell, Ben (Molly) Clayton, Tyler "TJ" (Anna) Renfro, Randi Lind, Ethan Myers, and Caleb Myers; 10 great-grandchildren Darci, Heath, Grant, and Walter Hamlin along with their mother Sandi Hamlin; Mason, Madi, and Margaret Greenwell; Sadie and Jack Clayton; Ruth Renfro, and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Fred Hamlin and Calvin Hamlin; his sister, Jackie Liford Kempf; and an infant brother.

Visitation will be from 11 AM until 1 PM on Saturday, May 16, 2026, at the Vankirk-Grisell Funeral Home, where his funeral service will be held at 1 PM with Rev. Doyle Lester officiating.

Burial will follow in the Smith Cemetery in Faber, Kentucky, with Military Honors by the DAV Chapter #158, Keavy. Serving as pallbearers will be Addison Hamlin, Kyle Greenwell, Ben Clayton, TJ Renfro, Ethan Myers, Caleb Myers, Steve Hamlin, and Doug Parker.

Hoss will be remembered for his unwavering faith, his servant’s heart, his love for family and friends, and the example of kindness and generosity he showed to all who knew him.
