Alma Marlene Johnson, of Corbin, Kentucky, passed away at the UT Medical Center on Tuesday, April 29, 2025. Marlene was born in Harlan, Kentucky, on January 27, 1948. She was a member of the Dorothe Pentecostal Church, where she loved to hear Bro. Billy preaching and the choir singing. Whether at home, in the hospital or the rehabilitation center, Marlene would often listen to services online and sing to her favorite songs.
Marlene was a long-time employee of Whayne Supply and enjoyed several different jobs while working there. She loved to work hard and received several awards during her time there.
She loved spending time with her family by hosting family gatherings and traveling to enjoy many vacations at the ocean.
Marlene is preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Odell Lanham; one sister, Bobbie Burke; sister-in-law, Susie Lanham; and her beloved husband, Herman Johnson.
She is survived by one son, Jack Lawson (Carla) of Corbin, Kentucky; two grandchildren, Tyler Lawson of Berea, Kentucky, and Kaitlyn Lawson of Lexington, Kentucky. She is also survived by three brothers, Paul Lanham of Tipp City, Ohio, Tommy Lanham (Betty) and Kenneth Lanham (Jackie), both of Corbin, Kentucky, as well as several nieces, nephews, other family, and friends who mourn her passing
Family will receive friends on Thursday, May 1, 2025, from 6-9 pm. at the Vankirk-Grisell Funeral Home in Corbin, Kentucky.
Alma's funeral services will be held on Friday, May 2, 2025, at 11:00 am at the Vankirk-Grisell Home with Rev. Billy Evans and Rev. Jimmy Logan Officiating.
Burial will follow at A.R. Dyche Memorial Park in London, Kentucky
