Roy Powell, 69, of Woodbine, passed away on Tuesday, October 5, 2010, at the VA Medical Center in Lexington.
Born in Clay County, he was the son of the late Walter and Myrtle Proffitt Powell. He was a farmer, an author of poetry, and a U.S. Army veteran. Roy was a member of the Corn Creek Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Etta Mae Weaver, Hazel Whitaker, and Bernice Buttery; and brothers, Elmer and Earl Powell.
Roy is survived by his wife, Anna Lou Powell; brothers, Ed Roscoe Powell of London, Randall Powell of London, and Homer Powell of West Virginia; sister, Susie Evans of London, and many nieces and nephews, all who mourn his passing.
Funeral service will be at 2pm Sunday, October 10, 2010, at the Vankirk-Grisell Funeral Home with Rev. Danny Fore and Rev. Keith Decker officiating. Burial will be in the Corn Creek Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers will be Jamie Love, Edward Love, Gary Love, Jay Love, Marvin Powers, and Jim Martin.
The family will receive friends from 6-9 pm Saturday, October 9, at the Vankirk-Grisell Funeral Home, 607 Master Street, Corbin.
