Opal Stanifer

Opal Stanifer, age 86, of Corbin, passed away on Monday August 29, 2011 at Central Baptist Hospital in Lexington. Born in Laurel County, she was the daughter of the late Blaine and Cecil Weaver Farley. She had been a homemaker and was a member of Good Hope Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Carl V. Stanifer in 1982; daughter, Kathy Elaine Stanifer; grandson, Ernie Steele Jr.; three sisters, Juanita Ross, Audrey Deweese and Rachel Drake; and a brother, Tommy Walden. She is survived by three children, Carl Stanifer Jr. and wife Ja of Abu Dahbi, UA, Lynn Steele and husband Ernie of Ashland, and Vicki Morgan and husband Kelvin of Corbin; grandchildren, Shelly Stem, Daryl Steele, Kristi Morgan, and Bambi Pelphrey; great-grandchldren, Tori Pelphrey, Timmy and Alexis Stem, and Alex Steele; brother, Gary Walden; and sister, Georgia Belcas, all who mourn her passing. The family will receive friends from 12 noon on Thursday, Sept. 1 until the funeral hour at 2pm at the Vankirk-Grisell Funeral Home. Officiating will be Rev. Doyle Lester and Rev. Darvin Wells.
