Joseph Anthony Hunkler was born to Joseph Clemons Hunkler & Opha Cox Hunkler in Cincinnati, Ohio on the 18th day of July, 1956, and he departed this world in Lexington, KY on the 15th day of May, 2013, being 56 years of age and after having battled cancer for longer than three years.
Joe, as he was commonly called, lived in Woodbine, KY, for more than thirty years with his wife Shirley Gray Hunkler, whom he married on the 7th day of January, 1984.
Along with his wife, Joe is survived by: three sons - Joseph Hunkler, Jr. and his fiancée Amber Henderson of Villa Rica, GA, Shane & Sara Hunkler of Temple, GA, & Brad & Neeley Hunkler of Douglasville, GA; and four young grandchildren: Andi, Chelsey, Evi and Ashley. Joe also leaves behind a brother: David Collett & his companion Phyllis Wyrick of Gray Hawk, KY, and has left behind many nephews, nieces, cousins, in-laws & friends. Joe was preceded in death by both of his parents and a brother, William Collett.
Joe attended high school at Ross H.S. in Hamilton, Ohio and earned his GED while serving honorably with the United States Marine Corps. Joe enjoyed the outdoors especially to hunt and fish, to share memories and funny stories, to care for his pets and to love his family. He attended church services at the Antioch Missionary Baptist Church.
Visitation will be on Saturday, May 18th, 2013, from 6:00 to 9:00 PM at the Vankirk-Grisell Funeral Home.
Funeral Service will be Sunday, May 19th at 2 PM at the Vankirk-Grisell Funeral Home with Bro. Phillip Nunn officiating. Pallbearers: Joey Hunkler, Shane Hunkler, Brad Hunkler, David Collett, Wayne Gray, Roger Mills.
Burial will follow at the Corn Creek Cemetery in Corbin Kentucky, with graveside military honors by American Legion Post #88.
