Gerald Lee Hacker of Kentucky passed away on Tuesday, June 24, 2014. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Frank and Dale Hacker of Manchester, and Estill and Edna Murrell of Corbin.
Gerald was born to the late Julius Hacker and late Thelma Bancroft on January 12, 1956. Step-father, Jim Bancroft lives in Corbin.
Gerald was a free spirit with a great heart. In his younger years, he traveled and worked anywhere from Disneyland to a boiler maker in Ohio. Gerald's marriage to Mary Jane Vastine resulted in his only child, April Dawn, who resides in Lexington. He married Edith Jackie Brown and they resided in Florida where he met his lifelong friend Eddie Foster.
Gerald was a ladies' man and the third time was a charm when he finally settled down and spent the last 25 years of his life with Lucy Ann Rutledge here in the Corbin area.
Gerald is also survived by step-daughter Casey Rutledge, and two step-grandsons that were the light of his life, Steven and Weslee Smith; sisters, Deanna Penn and Janet Hacker; half-brothers, James Bancroft and Frank Hacker.
Gerald was a professional painter that spent his free time watching UK basketball and Nascar. He found solace at the Indian Gap Missionary Baptist Church where he was recently baptized.
His visitation will be held on Sunday, June 29, 2014, from 12pm until the time of his funeral service at 1pm at the Vankirk-Grisell Funeral Home with Rev. David Johnson officiating and with music played by Eric Penn.
Family requests that flowers may be sent to honor Gerald. Donations may also be made to the funeral home to help with expenses.
